Update from Monika 1-3-2010

Hi Sharon,

I wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and all the best for you and the long ears for this year. May there all find good homes. (Fast)

I just locked over some of the paperwork from you. Mostly to find out how old everybody is...and I seen the note from Arden about Molly. Don’t know if you still have contact with Arden, but PLEASE let her now that Molly is my Baby as well.

I am sending you some Pix in a separate e-mail perhaps you can get them to Arden.

Everybody is doing well. Molly does not like to be locked in the Barn at night, puts up a little fuss, then she is fine. She is very protective of the Babys.

Babys are fine as well. I work with them a few times a week. We took them for a walk thru the woods the other day. There were fine.

Uncle Buck and Buddy act like youngsters now. You should see them play and Uncle Buck looks years younger. He is soooo happy.

Blondie has "worked " her way not only into the Horse Barn, but now she is in the same stall as her Boyfriend Oscar. There fine together. Blondie misses nothing, always watching.

She has bonded with all the Horses, watches me train them. Has to be everywhere. Miss Nosy!!!!

I know you are busy, stay warm.

Monika

Rudy was adopted by Karen Schankin of Ceresco, Mi.  Congratulations!!

Hi Sharon-

So sorry I haven't been in touch lately, I've had a busy couple of months & have been meaning to call or write.  Rudy is doing great - he has finally come out of his shell & seems to be very happy here.  He is very attached to my mare now & likes to torment my mini ( which is good for the mini - he's never been so thin & in shape!).  They are all getting along great & it's been so entertaining for us to watch Rudy & Ace ( mini) play- they chase each other up & down the paddock several times a day.  Rudy has been good for the farrier & the equine dentist ( his teeth were in good shape!), he was vaccinated in April & May and was good for that too.  I recently body clipped him, although I was only able to get him about half way done, my clippers died on me & I need to have them repaired, so he looks a little silly with the top half of his coat clipped off, but at least he's a little cooler.

Hope all is well with you & your donkeys,

Karen Schankin

Mugsy

Muggsy was adopted by his foster mom Amy Scharmin of Fowlerville, Mi. She also adopted Myrtle from us several years ago. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Just wanted to write and say that things are going GREAT and even better now that I know that my foster home is my forever home!  I adore my sis Myrtle who also came from the rescue, mom says we act like an old married couple and that makes her laugh.  Indy is a nice horse to live with too, he loves us long ears, he told me he's visited the rescue too, wow!  I think you'd be really happy with the changes I've made since coming to live here.  My coat is getting shiny, my eyes are bright and best of all, I've started to trust humans and get to see how very kind they can be.  Mom is taking really good care of me, she likes to fuss over all of us and I like it, I am all about food you know.  I love the supplements she's giving me twice a day now and she likes that I hardly crib anymore and is hoping that lasts after the grass is gone this winter, me too!  I try very hard to be the best boy I can be, sometimes I still get scared, but not so much as before.  And now my very sweet, curious and playful side is coming out, I thoroughly investigate anything new in the pasture with my teeth and love to carry our buckets around.  I've been really good for my feet trims and taught my mom that I'll take wormer so long as she puts it in rice pudding, that's not too much to ask, is it?  Well, guess I should get back to Myrtle and munching on grass, thanks again for all you did for me!

Stormy and Jasper have been adopted by Diane Calamia and family of Burlington, Wi.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Sunday July 19, 2009

Hi Sharon,

The boys had a great day, within an hour this morning they were grazing with my gelding, they met our dogs, ran for cover at first, then became quite curious, then chased the dogs and by this evening...both donkeys, my gelding, both dogs and the neighbors 3 kids were all in the barn isle watching me do chores. It was quite a picture.

They really seemed to enjoy running up and down the hills in the woods, it was comical to watch them. They have been very social, greeting everyone, still a little head shy when first petted but they get over that quickly. I have had absolutely no trouble in approaching them or putting a lead rope on them. I can't wait to see how things are going to be in a couple of months. Everyone has settled in nicely.

And we hope no one will be upset but we have decided to change their names...due to the fact that we already have animal relatives with these names...a yellow lab named Jasper and a cat named Stormy.

We will be calling them Doug the Donkey and his little brother Skeeter.

Thanks for welcoming us into the world of donkeys!!

 Diane

***Update 7-24-09***

Hi Sharon...the boys have continued to do well...still shy but getting braver every day.  We have decided that Jasper-older, short stocky one will be Doug and Stormy will be Skeeter.

Jasper/Doug has really taken to Bill,  Bill is very easy going and never gets rattled...we had a nasty storm yesterday, our barn has a metal roof and gets quite loud, which scared the boys at first, until they saw Bill was fine with it, they often go in Bill's stall with him, he doesn't mind sharing.
I hope the pictures I sent come through.

(YES they did...THANKS!)

Diane
