Susan & Iris have been adopted by their proud new
owners, Mike and Cheryl Touhey of Fowlerville, Mi .
The girls will be joining the Touhey`s resident horses
Dandy the quarter horse and Margaret the lovely black Clydesdale mare.
Seems as if both horses had a donkey friend in their
past. Fifteen years ago they boarded at a stable that had a resident
little mini donkey gelding that went by the name Houdini. Small world
as I had sold Houdini to that very farm that was owned by a Wayne
County mounted police officer. Both Dandy and Margaret were overcome
with curiosity when the girls let out their first long, loud bray to
announce their arrival!
Update from The
Touhey's:
I am
very happy to tell you that the girls had a very good night and this
morning couldn't have been better. Bringing them in last night was
just a small challenge when it came to going in the stall. However,
one tiny treat every time they took a step closer to coming in with me
did the trick. I was also very pleased to see that there was no sign
of them eating the straw in their stall. There was just a big
indention in the middle where they chose to lay down. Their little
tiny feed bowls were right where I left them last night, empty of
course. I don't know where the orange cone is. They either buried it
in the straw or threw it over the wall. I'm going to get them a
couple of pieces of hose today and a jolly ball. I don't want my
girls bored.
The dogs barked at them for about one minute this morning and that was
it. They must realize that they are not the usual deer they are used
to barking at.
We were going to change their names, but, you know, they are Susan and
Iris and nothing else suits them. We are so happy to have these
little ladies. They are wonderful:)
I will keep you posted on how they are doing.
