Several weeks ago we were contacted
by a fellow long ear lover and longtime owner from the northeast
area of Michigan.
Due to some serious health concerns
these folks were relocating to a distant western state in the very
near future. Indeed they had made great efforts to place their
beloved donkeys and mules into proper loving and permanent homes.
Those efforts were only met with moderate success.
After our initial phone
conversation, volunteer Renee McCammon and Sharon traveled north to
meet the owners and their TEN
long eared friends. As told to us prior to our visit, all the
animals were in excellent condition, and a loving trusting lot they
are!
They all spent considerable time
identifying bonded pairs ,noting past histories, and levels of
training. All the things that will make the transition into new
homes easier for the animals, and hopefully for their "people" as
well.
We agreed upon the date of Sunday,
Oct.28 to move the animals. I had previously enlisted members Gene
and Kelly Dehnel of Wausau, Wi. to ask if they would be willing to
foster several of the donkeys. As has happened each time I have
asked for their help their answer was YES. Not an easy feat as they
have a very large dairy farm and work at least EIGHT days a week.
Besides it being a nine hour drive each way to pick up the animals.
Two donkeys are fostered with them, and a third is being fostered
with Evette Huesler also a TPDR member and neighbor of the Dehnels. The
remaining animals are here in Dansville.
I wish to thank everyone for their
help in getting these wonderful donkeys and mules to their temporary
homes in both Michigan and Wisconsin.
Dave and Arden, please know that we
will place your beloved friends into the PERMANENT appropriate home
each deserves. Thank you for trusting Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue
with your pets futures. They each will remain with us for as long as
it takes to make the proper loving placement.
