Danny Lee

Danny Lee

This handsome frosted white boy is as gentle and kind as can be. He is between seven and eight years old and a miniature around 35 inches tall. He came to TPDR from a large auction barn .Evidently his former owner no longer had any use for either him or the pregnant jennet that came to the sale with him. Due to the current state of the economy donkeys are not bringing high prices. These sales are often used as dumping grounds for many unwanted horses, donkeys, and mules.

The pair stood tied patiently for many hours while waiting for their turn in the sales ring. Over and over again, they had their mouths forced open to determine their ages, and then just as often had their tails jerked up in an attempt to discover each donkeys gender. Neither animal objected but just stood quietly while awaiting their fate.

As expected, the pregnant jennet was sold first and her buyer had no interest in purchasing her companion that more than likely is the sire of her unborn foal. We were so happy to purchase him for our rescue. Any jack with his quiet, patient disposition would certainly make an outstanding gelding.

We brought him home, gave him a name, did all of his vet work including his castration and today we had his hooves trimmed. What a gentleman he is for every procedure done here at the rescue. He is a bit fearful when asked to lead to places he is unsure of. No, he does not fight, but just locks his breaks up until we convince him that what we are asking of him is safe. When unsure of things, Danny just plants himself in place and SHAKES. I am sure that he has been both dragged around and lifted and pushed into a trailer. He is learning to both load and lead with out fear .As Danny is such a tender hearted fellow, he is a delight to work with.
