 Leora

Leora the Lady,

This is exactly the way foster mom Toni Jones describes this lovely brown standard jennet.
I found her at a large horse auction late last winter. She was obviously in foal, and was harboring a pretty heavy infestation of lice. And  of course was just frightened to death due to the total chaos of her surroundings. Within a few days of getting her home, she promptly lost about one third of her hair. The stress of what she had just endured caused the lice to reproduce in huge numbers. We started treatment immediately, and also had her suspected pregnancy confirmed.

Shortly after delivering her beautiful jennet foal Pizzaz, the pair went into foster care with member Toni Jones. Leora was still a bit stand offish, but a well behaved jennet and a great mother to her foal. That first hoof trimming was really a challenge. Remember please that she had a new baby to look after and was in yet another new place.

How this girl has changed! Experience has taught me that just about every problem that our donkeys bring with them when they come to TPDR are based in FEAR. Their past association with people has often not been pleasant.

Leora had her hooves trimmed again last week and she behaved PERFECTLY!  Her farrier Mike is very patient and quiet.  He didn't do anything to frighten her, and he was rewarded with ladylike behavior.

Toni has done a great job with this gal, and the person that adopts her will be fortunate indeed. I would like Leora to find a quiet respectful owner that will really appreciate her ladylike personality. A home without a large number of animals would be best for her. She would be great as a companion to another horse or donkey or two. We don't want her to get lost in a  big herd.
