 Leora

Leora the Lady

Leora’s update November 2011

Leora is the first jennet (female) donkey I have had.  My donkeys are geldings and all of my previous foster donkeys were boys.

I was hesitant to put her in with my boys thinking it might disrupt them when she was in season.  That has not been the case in any way.  She has been in with the 2 geldings since early spring.  They all get along and she does not change her sweet disposition at any time.  They don’t seem to change their behavior towards her at any time either.

Comparing Lady Leora to my boys is like comparing rambunctious young teenage boys to a young lady.  While they push and shove each other out of the way to be first for hugs or treats, she just quietly walks up and waits.  While they are busy pushing each other out of the way she steps up and sucks up the attention while they are busy being boys.  Once in awhile she will join in and make a slight attempt at pushing one of them away.

Leora is not always the quiet one.  When she thinks I am running late to get their hay she is the first one to sound off and get the others to join in.

I have taken so many pictures of Leora but I can not get a good picture that captures her true donkey self.  Maybe she is just not photogenic.  I looked at pictures before she came to me.  I thought she looked OK.  Then when she arrived I could not believe how nice of a donkey she is.

She needs to be in a small herd and able to have at least one to bond with.  She is very attached to one of my donkeys.  However, I think she will bond very quickly to a new friend considering how fast she befriended my Hayden.

***********************************************

Leora has settled into her new foster home with TPDR member Jackie Timmerman immediately.  She has chosen Hayden to be her big brother and follows him around.  He thinks she is his pesky little sister.  She is just the sweetest donkey.  Not aggressive in any way.  She is also good for the farrier and comes to Jackie when she calls her name out in the pasture.

She is the first one in line when it is time to put halters on.   She likes to follow Jackie around the pasture for some hugs and attention.      She would do best with a small number of animals or as a companion so if you have questions about this lovely lady contact Jackie Timmerman at 616-868-0765 or e-mail her at jtimmmerman@hastingsmi.org

Or contact Sharon Windsor at 517-623-0000 or email her at: akaminidonkeys@fnwusers.com
