BUTLER

Butler with Robyn Haney

Butler is a 30 year old gelding that was recently purchased at auction by TPDR. This handsome old gent was ridden into the auction ring by two good sized boys and as they rode him to the far end of the ring he almost went down. His hind leg was obviously bothering him quite badly and the auctioneer said that he had been "stung by a bee".

He was purchased and went home with volunteer and foster mom Robyn Haney. It was very obvious that something was wrong with his hind foot, something much more serious than a "bee sting".

Robyn took him to the vet on the Monday following the auction and the vet agreed, there was something wrong much worse than an insect sting.

After more examination, this was found in the bulb of one of his hind feet!! No one knows how long he had suffered with this needle in his foot but it's out now!

He was unable to eat hay, and it was discovered that due to dental neglect, he has scar tissue in a solid line running to the back of his jaw. He is now eating hay cubes soaked in hot water and eats with much gusto! We believe it's the first time he has had good nutrition for quite some time but he is already beginning to put on weight .

He leads well, loads and is great for the farrier so he obviously was loved and cared for well at one time in his life. Unfortunately like many other "auction" donkeys, this poor guy has been ignored and neglected for many years.

In February of 2007, Butler was adopted by Mary Ellen Spaite of Valparaiso, Indiana.  Mary Ellen also previously adopted another one of our seniors, Miss Marple!!
