Do
you need donkey advice or have a donkey question?
and
check out our Donkey Helpline!
What's the question we are asked most frequently?
How
much will it cost to adopt a donkey from TPDR?
Our adoption fee is normally
$650.00, although occasionally a donkey may be priced a bit lower.
The fee could also be adjusted
upward depending on the training to ride/and or drive that animal has
had while here.
The adoption fee always covers all
vaccines, farrier work, current coggins, registration fee and
castration.
The fees associated with
transportation of adopted donkeys are NOT included in our
adoption fee.

Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue
is operated by volunteers who are committed to Donkeys and giving them a
second chance, a Turning Pointe, in their lives.
Turning
Pointe Donkey Rescue became a reality in October 2004 when an enthusiastic
group of people got together and decided that many nice donkeys were
unwanted, unappreciated and often found themselves in the meat pen at an
auction.
We are a
Michigan based non profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare
of miniature, standard and mammoth donkeys.
Our
objective is to promote the humane care and proper training of these long
ears and to provide the public with a better understanding of their true
nature
Our efforts will be
directed towards rescuing donkeys, and the education of perspective
and current donkey owners.
Donkeys come to the Rescue from a
variety of difficult situations. They will be matched with the most
compatible, compassionate and supportive environment.

There is no
character, howsoever good and fine, but it can be destroyed by
ridicule, howsoever poor and witless. Observe the ass, for instance:
his character is about perfect, he is the choicest spirit among all
the humbler animals, yet see what ridicule has brought him to. Instead
of feeling complimented when we are called an ass, we are left in
doubt.

I lost my house
I lost my job
my boyfriend thinks
the donks
are slobs
I didn't know
they'd need the vet
and shelter when
outside was wet
They
were so cute
when young and furry
but now they must go
in a hurry
They're
big! they eat!
and require care
I'm getting allergic
to the hair
What
was a lark
is now a bore
I don't want to do
any more
donkey chores
I've let them get
out of control
they have no manners
help save their souls
I swear I'll take them
to
an auction
if you don't fix
my
misdirection
I can not wait
to
get them away
You must
take them in
and let them stay
So please come now
and pay a fee
to care for
my
irresponsibility.

We recently received some
great photos of one of our former adoptees now living the good
life!
In August of
2008, Bob and Sue Scharp, of
Big Rapids, MI., adopted TPDR Harlan from us. They also
adopted Ruckus from our Amish trainer Tobias Lehman.
Their grand-daughter Eme is shown above with
Harlan! Thanks for sharing!! We just love seeing our former
donkeys living the good life!

Often we are asked the question "do
donkeys make good horse companions?"
These photos of Rembrandt and his pal Picasso will certainly
answer that question!! For an unwanted little auction
donkey, this TPDR rescue boy surely is living the good life after
being adopted in
August of 2006 by
Pamela Pittaway of Manchester, MI.
Thanks for sharing his photos
Pamela and for all you do for our long eared friends!! |

A GREAT BIG thank you to our

We recently started using an additional farrier
here at TPDR-- Craig Horton of Fowlerville, Mi.
During his visit here last week after finishing the
fourth trim Craig stepped back and said "well that is the one I
have been looking for." Not understanding his comment I of course
asked him to explain what he meant.
It seems as if he was talking to another client
about TPDR and our long eared residents that call this place home
whether it be temporary or permanent. Well that client also seems
to have a donkey known as "Little Jack" along with her Arabian
horses. This wonderful gal decided that she would donate four hoof
trims for our donkeys!
I asked Craig just who this kind person was, and he
told me that she instructed him to keep that part a secret. All he
would say was that she owned "Little Jack" and lived in Howell,
Mi.
So-----Whoever this person is----A very sincere
Thank You from the donkeys and their caretakers at Turning Pointe
Donkey Rescue!

With your help, we can keep these donkeys fed and
cared for until their forever home comes along and we can have more success stories
like TPDR Diana as well.

We found her at a large out of
state exotic animal auction this past May. She was tied to a wall in
a filthy, dark pen completely alone. Evidently she was placed there
due to both her behavior and her pathetic appearance. She was little
more than a skeleton covered with scars and matted hair. It was
obvious that someone had very recently cut her front hooves back
with no regard to doing a proper job. The hooves were pretty much
hacked off.
There she stood in a large puddle
of her own loose feces. She was both shaking, wringing her tail, and
kicking at anyone that dared to come near her.............

TPDR DIANA'S STORY

Often we have new donkeys lithat come to us and for various reasons, they are
not yet available for adoption.
We know from numerous
conversations with previous adopters and other followers of our rescue
that many people watch the progression of certain animals. As a result
of this, we have started a new section of our website for our "Donkeys
in Rehab" or our "Works in Progress"
This page will highlight our
long eared friends that are not quite ready to leave the rescue and go
to their forever homes. Click here to
find out more!
