Do you need donkey advice or have a donkey question?

and check out our Donkey Helpline!

What's the question we are asked most frequently?

How much will it cost to adopt a donkey from TPDR?

Our adoption fee is  normally $650.00, although occasionally a donkey may be priced a bit lower.

The fee could also be adjusted upward depending on the training to ride/and or drive that animal has had while here.

The adoption fee always covers all vaccines, farrier work, current coggins, registration fee and castration.

Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue is operated by volunteers who are committed to Donkeys and giving them a second chance, a Turning Pointe, in their lives.

Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue became a reality in October 2004 when an enthusiastic group of people got together and decided that many nice donkeys were unwanted, unappreciated and often found themselves in the meat pen at an auction.

We are a Michigan based non profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of miniature, standard and mammoth donkeys.

Our objective is to promote the humane care and proper training of these long ears and to provide the public with a better understanding of their true nature

Our efforts will be directed towards rescuing donkeys, and the education of perspective and current donkey owners.

Donkeys come to the Rescue from a variety of difficult situations. They will be matched with the most compatible, compassionate and supportive environment.

There is no character, howsoever good and fine, but it can be destroyed by ridicule, howsoever poor and witless. Observe the ass, for instance: his character is about perfect, he is the choicest spirit among all the humbler animals, yet see what ridicule has brought him to. Instead of feeling complimented when we are called an ass, we are left in doubt.
- Pudd'nhead Wilson AKA Mark Twain

I lost my house
I lost my job
my boyfriend thinks
the donks are slobs
I didn't know
they'd need the vet
and shelter when
outside was wet
They were so cute
when young and furry
but now they must go
in a hurry
They're big! they eat!
and require care
I'm getting allergic
to the hair
What was a lark
is now a bore
I don't want to do
any more donkey chores
I've let them get
out of control

they have no manners
help save their souls
I swear I'll take them
to
an auction
if you don't fix
my
misdirection                I can not wait
to
get them away
You must take them in
and let them stay
So please come now

and pay a fee
to care for
my irresponsibility.

"It's been a cold snowy winter so far in Michigan, but we don't mind!"

Pamela Pittaway shared this great photo of her gang enjoying a recent snowy day in Manchester, MI. Rembrandt (the one with the LONG EARS!) was adopted from TPDR in August of 2006 by Pamela, who has been a loyal and true friend to us ever since!!

SPECIAL THANKS

for this load of much needed hay!

Thanks to the Phillips, Smerlings, Scharps, Burkes and Pryces for their generosity!

It's that time of year, when everyone is hustling and bustling to finish their holiday shopping, wrapping and other preparations for Christmas gift giving. We would like to say a special thank you to a wonderful group of people who also remembered our long eared friends this holiday season.

This semi load of hay was donated to Turning Pointe by:

Dave & Arden Phillips-formerly of Alpena, Mi. & now relocated in Colorado

Carol Smerling of Millbrook, New York

Robert and Susan Scharp of Big Rapids, Mi

Frank and Betsy Burke of Grand Saline, Texas

and we also received an entire ton of feed from:

Pete and Carrie Pryce of New Hudson, Mi

There are no words that can express the gratitude we feel toward these special people for the very kind donations.

We can't stand to beg for money like so many other rescues do, besides we don't really know how. All we can do is tell people how very much every donation dollar is appreciated. Not only are we dealing with the ever mounting bills in a very challenging economy, but the number of donkeys losing their homes is staggering.

Last evening Sharon went to pick up two pet jennets and their little goat friend that we placed almost eight years ago. Their wonderful owner died suddenly the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. His three pets are grieving and are we're sure, totally confused. As it is impossible to explain to these sensitive creatures why their lives have been suddenly turned upside down, the emotional toll starts to affect those of us that deal with the aftermath as well.

Last December TPDR adopted 12 animals to exceptional homes. This December there has only been one.  The others wait and wait and wait.

Please consider a Donkey Sponsorship for your special occasion gift giving. It's the perfect gift for birthdays, anniversaries and other special days all throughout the year!

With your help, we can keep these donkeys fed and cared for until their forever home comes along and we can have more success stories like TPDR Diana as well.

We found her at a large out of state exotic animal auction this past May. She was tied to a wall in a filthy, dark pen completely alone. Evidently she was placed there due to both her behavior and her pathetic appearance. She was little more than a skeleton covered with scars and matted hair. It was obvious that someone had very recently cut her front hooves back with no regard to doing a proper job. The hooves were pretty much hacked off.

There she stood in a large puddle of her own loose feces. She was both shaking, wringing her tail, and kicking at anyone that dared to come near her.............

CHECK HERE FOR THE REST OF TPDR DIANA'S STORY

A special, oversized thank you to Betsy Burke of Lazy B Donkeys for their very generous Holiday donation to TPDR! They are helping us get our animals through this economic crisis AND the coming winter. Their generosity has taken a great deal of stress off everyone here at TPDR!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

Often we have new donkeys like Diana (shown below) that come to us and for various reasons, they are not yet available for adoption.

We know from numerous conversations with previous adopters and other followers of our rescue that many people watch the progression of certain animals. As a result of this, we have started a new section of our website for our "Donkeys in Rehab" or our "Works in Progress"

This page will highlight our long eared friends that are not quite ready to leave the rescue and go to their forever homes. Click here to find out more!
