KoKo is an 8 year old standard
donkey that came to the rescue with his 11 year old sister KiKi. Their
story is a sad one. They had all but been forgotten over the course of
six years. They had been fed, but not properly, and both are on the
chubby side. The care that all donkeys need and should have, had not
been met. As a result of this their feet and teeth had been totally
forgotten.
As you can see in the photos,
their hooves had grown to the point of almost touching their knees!
They were so long that after being sedated, they had to be cut down
with a sawz-all, then trimmed up properly. This is one of the worst
cases of neglect that TPDR has seen.
They are powerful photos and one
of the best ways we know how to answer "why start a rescue".
