Sara And Samantha

***HAPPY ENDING***

Sara and Samantha were adopted in November 2005 by Chris and Julie Copeland, DVM.

Sara and Samantha are perhaps the

oldest donkeys that most of us have

seen, they are guessed to be around

35yrs old. They are also two of the

kindest, gentlest and sweetest long ears.

These girls allowed a farrier to tend

to their incredibly neglected hooves

without being haltered even.

So how did they wind up needing rescue?

Well, once the old girls couldn't be

"used" for anything anymore, their owner

who had had them for years decided to

sell them at auction.

What a horrible end it could have been for

these two

sweeties. However, as luck would have it,

friends of TPDR were at the sale

and called Sharon to ask if she wanted

them to purchase the girls,Sharon

didn't hesitate with her YES!

The Wards were kind enough to keep

Sara and Samantha for a week or so to

help them get back on their feet.

During this time, Sam would try to

eat hay, but wasn't very successful.

Sara had a fever and was dangerously

anemic. A visit from the vet and

love from the Ward's pulled them both

through and they made their way

to Sharon's where they have continued to

come back to life. These poor girls legs

are covered with scars from fly

bites and they were so skinny, that the

flies were actually attacking their

hip bones too. Neither one of them

could perk their ears up at first,

but now check out those ears!

Sara and Samantha need a retirement

home together where they will never be

separated. It is believed that these

two are most likely mother and

daughter, so have probably been together

all of their lives. They also should never

have to compete for their food or shelter.

They both ADORE any and all attention

and go into a trance while being brushed.

We really cannot even describe how sweet

these grandma donkeys are, you would just

have to come and see for yourself.

The following is an e-mail sent from Kay Willmarth to Secretary Sue Snyder:

Hi Sue,

Just wanted to let you know, Bob & I went to Topeka auction last Friday to their carriage auction.  We were looking for a sleigh for Mouse & Mickey.  We were able to get a miniature sleigh in mint condition!  I can hardly wait for snow.  Mouse has been driving regularly now.  He works three days and then gets a day off.  He and Mickey also go for a half hour to an hour walk each day.  I will get someone to get photos so I can send to you.  My neighbor (with percherons) showed me how to walk them together, by coupling them.  Much easier, plus teaches them team work.  Will also get photos of Mouse pulling cart.

I love the Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue web site.  I'm sending a check to you to help with the medical expenses of the two old jennys.  I told Mark about them, but haven't heard back as to if his dad is interested in adopting them.   Talk to you soon.

Kay

THANK YOU KAY!!!
